Mission
To promote Morgan County by serving as the primary coordinator of information and resources for new and expanding businesses to optimize the activities of economic and community development for the enrichment of its businesses and residents.

Vision
Morgan County, where tradition and technology merge to provide choices, opportunities, and quality living.

Purpose
Targeted job growth to sustain and improve the quality of life in Morgan County.

2008 STRATEGIC PLAN
The Board of Directors identified numerous issues and possible program areas associated with achieving the 20-year vision. Through this process, MCEDC has developed clear goals, strategies and performance measures to guide the long-term economic development of Morgan County. While there are several long-term goals for economic development, priorities have been selected for specific strategies for MCEDC’s 2008 Plan of Work.

Business Retention and Expansion

  • Define specific skill needs of local industry and facilitate a cohesive initiative to develop training, recruiting and retaining of workforce in Morgan County.
  • Work with local governments to progress their economic plans forward and identify assets that can be used to attract new business.
  • Work with businesses and government entities to promote a “Buy Local” program. Continue ad campaign featuring this.
Recruitment
  • Identify appropriate industries for recruitment and do direct marketing to those industries (ie. small manufacturing, technology, food processing, renewable energy). Bring companies to Morgan County to see what we have to offer.
  • Attend trade shows and work with national publications to get Morgan County more visible. Stronger marketing presence ie. new website.
  • Work with the State on prospects that want to locate in rural areas.
  • Engage in local economic roundtables to gain ideas and leads on possible prospects for the County. Better communication with local businesses.
Infrastructure
  • Assess the capacity of physical infrastructure, including water, wastewater, waste management, transportation (surface and air), telecommunications, utilities, affordable housing, and schools.
  • Continue to work on gaining grant funding for infrastructure in the County. Work closely with cities and county on comprehensive plans.
